I bought my black corioliss straightner at the mall from a vendor. She did a neat demonstration of how to make large, wavy curls in my hair with it before I bought it. Ever since, I have not been able to figure out how to make the curls with the iron myself, even after looking at your diagram. They just come out like my hair has been folded around the iron and creased, not curly. Help?!?

I had the exact same problem. I bought it mostly because the guy @ the mall made the curls look soooo easy and every time I try it my hair just looks messy. Anyone figured it out?

I just got mine in the mail. I ordered it on ebay for 1/2 the price I would have gotten it for at the mall! I love it, so far! To make big wavy curls wrap the hair around one side of the iron, I've found that either side works. Wrap it from the outside in, like a loop. Then pull the iron straight down and Voila! Big wavy curls!

I can't believe there are so may with my same problem. I spent over an hour last night trying to curl my hair since I bought mine yesterday and ended up damaging my hair because of all the times I tried to curl it and it wouldn't work.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND!!! Would an expert help us please?!?! I'm really dissapointed, this thing wasn't cheap to purchase. I had such high hopes too especially when the lady at the mall curled my hair like magic. I've been unsuccessful in curling my hair, even when I flip outward and up 45-90 degree angle (like she instructed) and pulled down, my hair is still straight and becomes staticky.
I'm pretty sure the demonstrators all use the "same" product as us, so why can't I get my curls?!
    Someone help us!
(has anyone gone back to the vendor to tell them this problem? Now that I recall, no one actually tried it on themselves... I should've tried it on my own hair first.)

Okay this is getting to be ridiculous ! I too cant do the curls I bought it for this reason because I have straight hair the guy made the curls on my hair and showed me the way to do it well I have had it since mothers day 2006 and nothing yet I am going to the mall 2 morrow and demand they show me ! Lorie

Try making the curls tighter not so loose or they will easily crease. If you have too much hair clamped on the inside when you twirl it around its sure to crease.

  • At 1:42 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

If I remember correctly when the guy just grabbed me at the mall without telling me what he was doing, he didn't use it like a curling iron. Try this:

Take the section you want to curl, clamp it with the flat iron plates vertical (so hair is being pulled straight down) then turn the iron about 90-135 degrees so the hair is sticking out or in horizontally then just drape the hair over it (like you're wrapping the hair around it only once. Then pull it down with a little tension. It should basically be like making ribbon curls with scissors.

I work at a salon and acheive great results. I don't know what's so hard about it. This thing works, I know that.

  • At 10:50 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

ok u need to take ur hair and put it between the plates, then like push the plates together... after that, turn the straightener (with ur hair still in it) towards the inside so it makes a loop around the straightener... after pull it down slowly and there you go! curls!!!

I had the same problem with getting my hair to curl after the demonstration in the mall. After playing with it for a few days on my own and having no luck, I went back to the vendor and had them show me how and it works! You clamp the hair, roll it towards you, flip the tail end of the hair in the same directionand roll unil the tail of the hair is facing towards the floor again. Then just slowly pull down with it and you should have curls. Hope this helps!

Do NOT buy this at the mall under any circumstances -- it is too expensive. I got suckered into buying the Wet/Dry for $300 at Fair Oaks Mall in Virginia. Buyer beware -- there are no refunds at the mall. Buy it on eBay if you can.

This is just hard to believe. How long have some of you been doing your hair? The minute I cot jome, I started making waves and curls in my hair. The only problem I've ever had with straightening or curling my hair with the corioliss is the fact that my hair is extremely thick and my arm gets tired. The money I spent on that straightener was the best money I ever spent!! If you need me, I will be more than happy to come and show you how to do it!!

This is just hard to believe. How many of you have been doing your own hair? The only problem I've ever had with straightening or curling my hair with the corioliss is the fact that my arm gets tired because my hair is so thick. The night after I bought the iron, I used it to make waves in my hair for a dinner date I was having. This iron works fantastically, and its the best money I've ever spent. If I had the technology, I'd make a training video for you all.

I am one of those people who have hard time curling the hair with this flat iron. I have the pink one which I bought at Ala Moana Shopping Center in Hawaii while vacationing.... Spent around $200.... too much! The sales person made the curls with no efforts however if I do it at home, it is completely different story... It is hit and miss! Some curls turns out OK and the others looks like sectional bed head! I was searching the "YouTube" website and found another flat iron brand shows how to curl the hair using thier flat iron. I think the method they use is same as Corioliss'. If you are interested in, check it out.

It took me a while to figure out how to curl like the vendor showed me but I figured it out. Take a small section of your hair between the plates of the curling iron. Then flip it over 180degrees and slowly pull it down to the tips of your hair. And if you want it to be curlier at the end then just hold for a couple seconds when you get there. Hope this helped somehow.

Remember guys, if ur hair is frizzy and dry, using this straightener will NOT make is smooth and sleek like the pictures. Only moisture can do that.
Nonetheless, here's how you DO do it.

    Straightening Tips/Steps:

    1. If ur hair is naturally curly, invest in a deep conditioner for regular use. Then before you straighten your hair, wash it using a straightening shampoo/conditioner. If your hair is naturally wavy or straight, use a good deep moisturizing shampoo/conditioner.

    2. Blowdry ur hair using ur fingers to lightly straighten and detangle. If you have wavy or curly hair, it will not be perfectly straight doing this, it doesn't matter. What's important is not to use a comb or brush when blowdrying ur hair as your hair is at its weakest point when wet and also because by using one, it will make your hair frizzy.

    3. Divide your hair into 2 or 3 sections, depending much hair u have. start from the top of your head to the bottom. Use clips to hold the sections out of the way. The bottom section doesn't need to be sectioned. Straighten the bottom section using the straightener. Then continue on to the next section until finished whole head.

    4. If your hair is healthy and was pretty straight before anyways, apply a shine serum on top to smooth out any flyaways. If your hair is dry or was curly before, apply a hair moisturizer throughout hair to defrizz and smooth flyaways.

Folks, pay only by credit card. The vendors obviously use a different straightner. The hair does not look the same when you buy one and get it home! I am going back to return it tomorrow. After $240. I will put the purchase in dispute with my credit card company. They are ripping people off. Go to the Better Business Bureau to file a complaint with these vendors. Spread the word!

I also bought the Pink limited edition Corioliss on ebay a couple of weeks ago, and it has not worked for me so far.

I had the demonstration done before that as well, and my hair turned out great, but when I got mine and tried doing it at home, my hair was frizzy, dry and it wasn't even straight.

The girl told me that it 'brings moisture to the surface', which is obviously not true, and she told me that it will do the job easily on my hair because it does african-american hair very well, and I am not african-american.

I find it hard to believe that it works on extremely thick, wavy, frizzy hair!

    I am very disappointed.

You people are obviously doing something wrong. I bought the pink Corioliss nearly 2 years ago, and I have very thick hair. It is also pretty dry due to a lot of time spent in the pool. Anyway, the iron makes my hair perfectly smooth and soft. It is AMAZING. Sometimes you have to go over a section more than once, but it is not rocket science. I guarantee they are not using a different iron at the mall kiosk.

To the person who said buyer beware dont buy at the mall I have something to say to you. YOU ARE WRONG !!! I have been a hair dresser for many years and I know everything there is to know about these irons. The reason you can buy them for thirty dollars on ebay is because it is either a SXE knock off or it is pre owned. The Corioliss Irons sold at the mall are top quality come with a warranty and are in fact 100 percent ceramic. I don't care who you are if your box doesnt say 100 percent its not. Legally flat iron companys only have to be 15 percent ceramic to have the word ceramic on the box... such as FHI, CHI, etc... All corioliss irons that are bought at the mall are legit and corioliss the company will back there irons if bought from one of their distributors ( the mall kiosks) not from ebay, and ladies the best way to learn to curl is togo on YOUTUBE.COM and type in curling with flatirons videos played repeatedly are easier to learn with rather than word (text). Best of Luck . - Brooke

I've read a lot of the comments.. WOW!! I can't believe it.. all the same problem..maybe I can help, my sister and I did it for 20 mins and finally figured it out the diagram helped a little. It was missing a step to it or more??

    1. grab an inch of a strand of your hair.

    2. start at the top of your strand of hair. Hold your straightner like you want to cut your hair, then take the strand of hair, wrap it around the top of the straightner like your puting a bandaid on your finger, (one time wrap only)

3.Clamp the hair, hold it in postion, rotate the straightner( flip it toward you) hold it once you get it around.

    4. (don't hold to long) Right when it gets to that point. Hold the strand of your hair while your pulling the straightner downward(SLOWLY) Take YOUR TIME TO GET TO THE END!!

FINALLY, It should come out if it comes out a little fuzzy use your finger and curl it, it should be perfect!! trust me mine came oout Great I did my sister's and two Sister in laws!!

My husband bought me a corioliss limited edition leopard print tourmaline straightening iron, at the international mall, tampa. I loved it, but it had an odor when I plug it in, now I noticed when I used it the other day black on my hair, the plates are loose and the glue is coming off. I don't use it that much, and it's not old. Of course no receipt, any suggestions? anyone else have this type of problem?

I bought the black flat irons from Opry mills mall a few years ago. I refuse to use anything else. I can straighten my hair, give it a little bump on the end, or even go curly. I absolutely LOVE my flat irons. On top of having the flexibility to do that, they come with a lifetime warranty. I'm sold.

When you pull down after you curl your hair up in the straightener, remember not to clamp it tight at all..I think that's where most of you are going wrong. The curls look amazing if you loosen up!

So, I have to say that I had the same exact problem and the girl at the kiosk that showed me how to work gave terrible directions. However, I'd like to thank everybody on here for their version, because I was able to get the effect I wanted all along after a few practice rounds!

Well, i have had my corioliss a little over a year, i can straighten and curl perfectly. I dont understand how you get "suckered" in to paying the money? it was your choice to pay it and you did. Deal with it... It's not the fault of the people sho sold it. You are obviously just retarted.

If you try to curl your hair after a failed attempt or straightening it first, you will need to let your hair cool down completely before trying again. If your hair is still hot it wont work, try again on another section. Once you get the hang of doing the curls (and it is very easy really) you will LOVE your new hair irons. I think they are great, the only thing I doubt is the fact they state "no products needed to protect your hair". I would still use heat protectant products just in case :) hope this helps some of you. Vikki

its pretty simple. iwatched carefully as the guy did it. u just have to wrap the hair around while pulling it down in a twisting motion. youtube.com it im sure theres an instruction video

Everyone is talking about the curls but does it straighten your hair nicely?

  • At 6:44 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

I'd also like some help with the straightening. They did a great job at the mall but I can't get it to truly straighten my hair, it straightens it a bit but my hair remains kind of wavy (I have naturally wavy hair). This image isn't that helpful.

  • At 11:22 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said…

I've watched them do it several times at our local mall and it is pretty easy. You don't curl your hair like you would with a curling iron, because You don't twist your hair all the way around it. You take a piece of your hair and only curl it like half way and then pull it straight down with the hair still wrapped around it.

I have had my corioliss for 2 years now, works great for straightening my hair, never really tried to curl it, I pay 137 for mine, the lady said I have a lifetime warranty and I can bring my straighter to the corioliss kiosk every two years and upgrade it for free, as long as I have the original receipt, now I can't seem to find a kiosk anywhere, all the one in my malls are a different brand now going against corioliss, and after two years of staying in its protector case unless being used, the stupid on off switch decided it doesn't wanna work anymore...not very happy
